New sex abuse charges filed against youth hockey coach

(reported by NJ.com – June 8 2017)

Authorities have announced new charges against a youth hockey coach accused of sexually abusing boys in New Jersey and Delaware.

Walter W. Ferinden, 56, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, was arrested in March on charges of sexual contact involving a 12-year-old boy in Deptford in 1994 and on similar charges involving two minors in Delaware in the 1980s and ’90s.

The new charges allege that he abused a boy in Shamong Township, Burlington County, in 1992.

Ferinden was arrested Wednesday at the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office on second-degree charges of sexual contact. The new case will likely be transferred to Gloucester County for prosecution. This is not the same victim described in the Deptford complaint, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office noted.

In the Deptford case, the victim played in a junior hockey league where Ferinden was a coach in Washington Township. The alleged crimes occurred in Ferinden’s apartment.

That victim told investigators Ferinden kissed him on the mouth, massaged his body and pressed his genitals against him, according to the criminal complaint.

In the Delaware case, Ferinden is charged with nine counts of second-degree unlawful sexual contact with minors. The alleged abuse occurred in the greater Wilmington area, with some incidents taking place in a vehicle while others occurred in Ferinden’s Delaware home, authorities reported in March.
